Gardiners (Stand B5) Calendar Girls a revelation
It started as one of those wild ideas, but now its there for all to see. Eighteen girls at Gardiner Securitys head office in Rochdale have really shown what they are made of, all of them stripping off to produce Calendar Girls 2005, something which gives a whole new take on the UKs no.1 distributor of security products.

American Beauty

What possessed so many girls at the company to go for the idea? And what persuaded Gardiner Security to give its blessing and arrange for all the photo-shoots, design and full colour printing of a large format calendar showing 12 such revealing exposures of its female staff? The answer - its purpose. All the proceeds will be in aid of the Childrens Leukaemia and Cancer Fund of the Manchester Childrens Hospitals Charity, a cause very close to the heart of the girl with the original idea.

It was when head office receptionist Yvonne Seddon started arranging numerous staff photos for producing staff ID cards that she asked jokingly if Human Resources wanted just a head and shoulders shot of her and everyone, or something more?

It was earlier this year, at the time the film 'Calendar Girls' was being heavily promoted, and thats where it all began, she says. Wed been doing other things quite regularly to raise money for charity, but this really caught our imagination. So when so many other girls on the staff said they would volunteer to do it too, the company agreed to publish it.

The cause of Children's Leukaemia is one close to all their hearts, especially Yvonne's daughter Helen, whose school friend Clare Drogan died of the disease and to whose memory the calendar is dedicated. Support to the Childrens Leukaemia and Cancer Fund will help Manchester Childrens Hospitals provide better equipment, more research and a brighter environment for young sufferers.

Creatively, everything about Calendar Girls is their own idea, right down to the props they used. All the volunteers drew their names out of a hat to see which month they would appear in. Once this was decided, all the girls brainstormed their ideas to come up with the themes for each month. It was up to them whether they were prepared to feature on their own or be photographed with others (see index below for full details.)
The result is more than a great years entertainment for everyone who buys one, too. There are pastiches of well known images such as Christine Keeler and the film American Beauty, a series of seasonal scenes including the Fourth of July, Beach Babes, Halloween, Guy Fawkes and Christmas, plus some very unexpected uses of Gardiner Security settings which will bring a laugh or a smile to anyone, in or out of the security industry.

Being in such a good cause, every month has also been sponsored by some of Gardiner Securitys leading suppliers, all well known manufacturers in the security industry. The photos were taken by The John Mills Group, Liverpool and the calendar was designed and printed by Papyrus Design, Manchester.

At 4.99 per copy including VAT, everyone at Gardiner Security is hoping Calendar Girls 2005 will raise tens of thousands of pounds to aid young leukaemia sufferers. Copies are now on sale and can be purchased at any branch of Gardiner Security nationwide, or orders emailed to calendargirls@gardinersecurity.co.uk
